I know that there are some populations in the Hilo area.
We live in Holualoa which is ideal for their survival at 1400 ft. elevation, morning sun, afternoon showers, and a nighttime drop in temperature. It takes practice to see them, so we look at every branch and are lucky to be living in Hawaii one of the only places on the planet besides Africa to see Jackson's. I kept a daily journal for 5 years and shot over 5000 photos to learn about the behavior of Jackson's chameleons in habitat (we are the ones in the enclosure). My book came out this year, Chameleons in the Garden, www.chameleonsinthegarden.com

Incredible. I have yet to see one of those in Hilo, but I guess you have a few on the west side. Are they wild?
